1840 - Land records for district 7, Washington Co.,Tenn. show.....Henry Banner Heirs.......110 acres.

Sept 1841-Henry Banner’s will probated in Washington Co.,Tenn.

Research: The census evaluation of the Benjamin Banner,Sr, family shows Henry in the household of his father on the 1790 census Stokes Co.,NC census. On the 1800 census, Henry has left the household and is thought to be in Kentucky in the area of Clear Creek,KY(Hopkins Co.) and married to Juda "Judy" Cope Hopkins. This is the second marriage for Juda Cope, she was previously married to Parker Hopkins. According to the book, "Over the Misty Hills, the Story of Cocke Co.,Tenn."by Ruth Webb Odell, "Parker Hopkins went away to fight Indians and was never seen again." In 1813, Henry's first child Lewis Banner is born in Clear Creek,KY. It is possible that Henry was in Washington Co.,Tenn. by 1820, however he does not show on the Tenn. Federal Census until 1840 and at that time he is in Washington Co.,Tenn.167

abt 1810 when Henry was 37, he married Juda "Judy" COPE, in Kentucky??342 Born in 1774 in Kentucky?? Juda "Judy" died in Washington Co. Tenn. in 1855/1856, she was 81.

Research: From a notebook of Robt. Eugene Hopkins (son of Wm. Montgomery), where he has copied a section referenced "History of Hamilton Co & Chattanooga Tenn.", Vol 1, page 271:
Sequatchie county -
Sequatchie Co. was erected by Act. of the general Assembly of the state of Tennesse in 1859 from territory belonging to Hamilton Co. & Marion Co. The county was erected several years after the date of the last Revolutionary Pension list, but several graves of the Revolutionary Soldiers can be found within its boundaries they lived however in Marion & Hamilton Co. & drew pensions in these counties. Sequatchie Co. territory had its part in the Indian history of the Section, Benjamin Hopkins, was killed by the Indian in Sequatchie vally near the present sight of Chattanooga. Judith Cope Hopkins, wife of the victim, was captured by the Indians & she gave birth to a son while she
was a captive. The son was named Benjamin Parker Hopkins, he was probably named for his father. An Indian woman aided Judith H. & her child to escape.
Benjamin and Mary are the children of Juda Cope Hopkins Banner and they are both mentioned in Henry Banner's will dated 26 Jan 1829:
"....Dry Gut which divided apart of sd. lands rented to BENJAMON
P.HOPKINS and after BENJAMON P. HOPKINS* time is out
I Give and Bequeath unto my Beloved son LEWIS one
years rent of the part of (word marked out) the track
rented to said HOPKINS for hs scooling and said HOPKINS
to have a preference of Renting of that part where
on now he Lives ...."
"....MARY HOPKINS is to have one of the Cow Beasts out of the
present stock and said MARY to have her home as
long as she thinks proper with the family...."
*Benjamin Parker Hopkins was born 4 Dec 1808 in Sequatchie, Marion Co.,Tenn. (He is shown in the Cocke Co. book as born in Sequatchie, Yancey Co.,NC, but there is no such place.)
