"A Shot Gun to the Front:
Last Wednesday a difficulty occurred between Mr. Mat Ziglar and his father in law, Mr. Edward Banner, two respectively farmers living a short distance Northeast of the city. Banner, it seems, owned the property upon which Mr. Ziglar lives, and having disposed of the same, requested possession. Warm words followed and the end was that Banner procured his double-barreled shot gun and emptied one barrel at Ziglar, scattering load over his face and body. The wounds are quite painful, but it is thought, not of a serious nature. The members of a family frequently disagree is to be deplored. Peace betwixt man and man and woman is a blessed state of existence and borders upon divine nature. The individual that conquers the human in this respect has made a good start upon the way to a better life."

J. B. Banner, of Leroy, had both eyes torn out and his face badly crushed and initiated by a kick from a horse yesterday afternoon about 4 o'clock. It is feared that death will result. The victim of the unfortunate accident had just returned home from a weeks visit with his grandchildren in Missouri and had returned to the home of his son, Mr. Daniel Banner. He was found a few minutes after he left the house by his little eight year old granson, Francis Banner, who ran to to the house and told Mrs. Daniel Banner of the affair. Neighbors were summoned and Mr. Banner was carried to the house and in the meantime Doctors Tuttle and Sawyer were summoned and were soon upon the scene. Upon examination it was found that the wounds were of a very serious character.
Knocked Both Eyes Out:
Both eyes had been torn from their sockets by the terrific blow and the face was badly mutilated. There is a hugh gash, extending from the right eye to the chin.
Late last evening Mr. Banner had only partially regained consciousness and the physcians gave the members of the family but little hope for his recovery.
