The Surry County Genealogical
Association is happy to announce that Jimmy Cockerham's research
material is now bound and in the Carlos Surratt Genealogy Room at
Surry Community College. There are 130 bound books on many families
that he researched. They are bound in alphabetical order and full of
research material. Jimmy was only 13 years old when he started his
research of Surry County families. He died June 12, 2003 and donated
his material to the association. Etheleen Sehen and her group of
volunteers had the task of reviewing and sorting material in 24
boxes. Work started on May 14 of this year and the job completed,
bound, and on the shelf in August.
The list of family books is printed in the fall issue of the SCGA
journal.
